From Friday, August 18, 2023 -  08:30am
To Monday, August 21, 2023 - 06:00pm

For the U4WDT trainers only – a professional development trip.

Cactus, Johno and Geoff will be heading into the “Murchison Region” where we plan on mapping all the homesteads on stations that were handed back to the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA).

Purpose of this trip is to map a track such as what was done for the Holland Tracks and The Wally's Track some years ago, to created other/more opportunities for responsible motorised recreation. There has been so many tracks and areas shut down on us that there is a need to find these other opportunities to recreate.

It’s also a camping trip to just give something back to the two guys that have helped out in the 4wd training for many, many years.

Geoff was Chairman of Track Care WA Inc from 2008 to 2011, in that time there was a Rangelands team formed that was led by Jeff and Lyn Hemsley.

Jeff and Lyn’s Rangelands Track Care team went about arranging transport, materials, and the labour as DBCA volunteers in the hope of preventing many of these homesteads from being bulldozed as many of these homesteads were in a derelict state and deemed unsafe for the general public to take a look through.

Even a fence was erected at some old ruins in the hope to keep people safe.

Terry Wison of Track Care arranged the initial reccie to go check many of the homesteads out to see which ones could be salvaged and which ones couldn’t, then report back to Geraldton.

Not just in the Murchison region, but into the Goldfields as well.

Jeff and Terry worked closely with Geraldton Parks and Visitor Services, that’s Parks and Wildlife that are attached to DBCA to get all these AWESOME projects off the ground.

Cactus, Johno and Geoff will be attempting to retraces Terry’s initial reccie and make a trip out of it, also to check out the condition of all these homesteads that were once renovated by the Track Care Rangelands team acting as DBCA volunteers.

The tracks file created will be made available to those that have done the 4wd training with us, it will be made available via Ultimate 4wd Training eLearning suite attached to the OziExplorer course that is available to anyone that does any of the 4wd courses we offer.

The track file will be made availabe to ARMA www.arme.net.au members too!

The Wally’s track is already uploaded and can be downloaded within the eLearning suite.
